THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT
The idea is very basic -
+ Accentuate the positive aspects of being an older person.
+ Provide a radio station for older people to run themselves.
+ Make the station unique by specialising in records made before1960
ANGEL RADIO IS A FANTASTIC, UNIQUE PROJECT.
ITS SCOPE AND ABILITY TO REACH, AND BECOME A LIFELINE TO MANY MORE OLDER PEOPLE IS ONLY LIMITED BY A LACK OF FUNDING.

THE ANGEL RADIO TEAM
The Angel Radio team numbers 82 volunteers.
Several of our team are in their 80s, most are over 60.
Most have never worked in radio before.
Most are fit and active.
Some have disabilities, including blind, deaf, arthritic, Parkinson's and stroke victims.
All do as much as they feel comfortable with.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT IT
Angel Radio provides unique entertainment, information, reminiscence therapy, mental and physical stimulation, self-esteem, bereavement therapy, and friendly voices with natural personality, all produced by older people specifically for an audience aged 60 years and over.

No other radio station in Europe provides this all encompassing service for older people.
WHEN DID ANGEL START
Angel Radio's first broadcast for older people was in February 1999 in Portsmouth. Our second broadcast was in September 1999 on the Isle of Wight. In June 2000 we launched Angel Cable Radio on the Isle of Wight and also ran more broadcasts in Portsmouth and London. In February 2002 we began 24/7 broadcasts on 101.1 FM in Havant and have been on air ever since. We were awarded Ofcom's 2nd Community Radio Licence in 2006 and in 2007 our Isle of Wight cable station was awarded Ofcom's 7th Community Radio Licence.
