ANGEL AUDIENCE & WEBSITE GROWS

Angel Radio's FM and internet audience are growing at an amazing rate. Station Manager, Tony Smith, said "Every day we are getting new FM listeners calling our request line, and almost 100,000 people have logged on to our internet streams. We have now doubled the capacity of our servers so that even more people can listen online. Listenership has also been boosted by companies like 'Reciva' who send our streams to Wi-Fi radios. Our website is expanding too. We've recently added lots more photos of presenters, a batch of old movie clips, and even technical stuff about our studios".

HOLIDAY, WHAT HOLIDAY?

Angel Radio's Station Manager found out that the 7th isn't always a lucky number when he arrived at his holiday destination on Thursday 7th August. Tony Smith, better known as 'Scatterbrain' reached the small fishing village in Spain at 8.30 in the morning. Two hours later he received a call from Angel Radio in the UK to tell him the station was off air. Following several telephone conversations and an exchange of text messages it was apparent that the staff at Angel would not be able to repair the fault themselves. One hour later, after some frantic phone calls and an even more frantic trip to the port at Bilbao, Tony was on a P&O ferry

back to the UK in a force 8 gale. "Well

that was the shortest holiday I've ever

had" said Mr Smith "The ferry got me

into Portsmouth at 6.30pm and by 8pm

I'd traced the fault and repaired it and

got the transmitter back on air. At first I

felt really annoyed about missing my holiday, but now I think who needs sun, beer, and rest? I bloody do !!!."

ANGEL LOSES FM TRANSMISSIONS

Angel Radio's 101.1 FM audio suddenly disappeared from the airwaves during Juliette's quiz show on Wednesday 6th August. The Main transmitter remained on air with a blank carrier wave and the RDS readout still said ~ ANGEL ~ but listeners could no longer enjoy the music and chat from their favourite local station. However, people all around the world could still listen to the shows on their PCs and internet radios.

The station's FM service was off air until 8pm on Friday 8th August when Tony Smith, Angel's founder, Manager and Chief Technician managed to track down the fault to the link-aerial (which transmits the signal from the studio to the main transmitter) and repair a broken capacitor wire with a soldering iron.

Mr Smith said "This damage was caused by strong winds and corrosion which had attacked a wire joint."

ANGEL LAUNCHES NEW SPEECH+ SERVICE

Angel Radio is launching an additional service, which will be available online on from 1st September. New 'LISTEN LIVE' buttons will appear on the website which will allow listeners, who prefer a higher ratio of speech to music, to enjoy a different mix of nostalgia programmes.

Currently Angel Radio broadcasts a mix of 70% music and 30% speech. This will remain the same. The new additional service will provide internet listeners with the choice of switching to a mix of just 30% music and 70% speech.

The new service, Angel Speech+ will make use of new studio and broadcast equipment purchased for it's aborted DAB service.
