Angel Radio - live link from Stornoway
Church of Our Holy Redeemer Father Tom Kearns
Special thanks to Two Lochs Radio and Tony Henk (Engineer)
When Tony Henk first suggested a broadcast of the 9 Lessons & Carols Service could be sent, via the internet, live from the Church of Our Holy Redeemer in Stornoway and could then be aired on Angel Radio I was delighted.
In 1999 Angel Radio had a live link with the ABC Network, which saw our little radio station broadcast coast to coast across Australia each week for 8 weeks. Since then we haven't tried anything like it.
Tony Henk and his team in Stornoway did all the difficult technical work while I just sat by the link in Havant waiting for the 30 minute countdown to begin . . .
. . and I waited, and waited until panic started setting in with just 15 minutes to go . . . . and still no link. Then, a voice said "15 minutes to go" and I breathed a sigh of relief. The link was working and by the wonders of modern technology the angelic voices of a choir in Stornaway were enjoyed by thousands of listeners to Angel Radio.
The Church of Our Holy Redeemer in Stornoway was originally a wooden hut, which was replaced in the 1990s. The new church burn't down and another replaced it. It was from this beautiful building that the concert was broadcast.
To hear the concert please ensure your speakers are on.
